I was testing things out on MOBTV recently and my computer is apparently not compatible. It claims that I have an older version of Windows Media Player.

We have detected an older version of Windows Media Player on your computer which might not be compatible with MOBTV services.

Please click on the link to upgrade it to the latest version of Windows Media Player.

Please click next to proceed to the next check after you have completed the upgrade.

I’m pretty sure I have the latest version - Windows Media Player 11. It came pre-installed with Windows Vista. These are the things that turn people away.

And I hate to see that uppercase the word MOBTV.

This came in rather recent and I was kinda shock when I see this. Our bills rise up to 300SGD. That’s quite a high amount. Our bills hover around 200SGD and never really rise that high.

Water and electricity bills are on the rise

I’m aware that the money suckers tweaked the charges yet again citing rising costs and blah blah. We just pay it I guess. I am surprised yet a little guilty. This month, I almost didn’t switch off my computer at all.

I had this strange computer problem that gives me a Primary Master Hard Disk Error each time I turn on the computer and I had to switch on and off several times before the Hard Disk can be correctly read. That always kinda scared me so I didn’t dare switch off my computer with the fear that I never get to turn it on back. It is especially at such times when I need my computer that I switched it on twenty-four seven. On best record, it went on for 22 days and 3 hours without a single restart. No, I am not operating a server, thank you. (more…)

I just cleared all the files in Previous Versions and it cleared 52GB of my disk space! I was wondering why I used so much disk space in just 1.5 weeks of computer usage! So it is Previous Versions. (Some people refer to it as Shadow Copies.) (more…)

If you just want to download the latest Django trunk package, you can just scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on Download in other formats: Zip Archive.

I use an SVN tool called TortoiseSVN to commit projects. The same tool can be used to check out the Django source code. By ‘check out’, what you are doing to retrieving a copy of the Django source code from the online repository.

As Django hasn’t reach 1.0, new features are being rolled out very quickly. These new features deprecate some older ones and adds new things to your to-play list. It’s always good to have the latest version. You can grab it through the SVN trunk. (more…)

NVIDIA CEO Jen Hsun-Huang was quoted saying Intel’s integrated graphics offerings were “a joke,” and that even a tenfold increase in performance would put them behind NVIDIA’s current products. “We’re going to open a can of whoop ass,” he told analysts, whom quickly broke out into laughter.

NVIDIA CEO: “We’re Going to Open a Can of Whoop Ass”

Throughout the bulk of the conference call, Huang continued to lament Intel for poor graphics performance. He hints at another Intel slide deck that claims Intel GMA 3100 is Windows Vista Premium compatible — a claim which was debunked by Microsoft employees in a recent lawsuit.

Intel fired back minutes later, sending emails to analysts detailing NVIDIA’s poor track record when it comes to Vista crashes due to incomplete drivers. Almost on queue, Huang responded once again.

“NVIDIA has to support several new titles every week,” he said, alleging that Intel’s graphics just have to support the basic office packages. “You already have the right machine to run Excel. You bought it four years ago,” he said.

The statement clearly struck a nerve with Huang, who paused for a second before adding “How much faster can you render the blue screen of death?” (more…)

This is possibly one of the easier ways to install a Django development environment for your Windows Vista 32-bit machine. (Alternatively, there’s Instant Django, it’s much like Instant Rails where you just extract it out and can start immediately.)

0. Objective

Objective is to create an application with Django. This guide assumes you have no knowledge in Python, Django or Windows Vista. It does, however, assumes you know and already set up MySQL nicely. Just for you information, I use XAMPP Lite for development in PHP. I run XAMPP Lite’s MySQL and administer my MySQL with phpMyAdmin.

Let’s look at the required downloads. We will need 3 things:

  1. Python 2.5: Django requires Python to function, we’ll grab the latest Windows binary here. (Get the one that says something like Python 2.5.2 Windows installer)
  2. Django: You can get Django here. Use option 2 if you don’t know what SVN is about.
  3. MySQL for Python: This lets Python use MySQL, it does not install MySQL. You can get it here. (Download the one that says ‘MySQL-python-1.2.2.win32-py2.5.exe’ inside the ‘mysql-python‘ package.

1. Installing Python 2.5
