Some problems with XAMPP 1.7.0 and Windows 7

For some reason, I couldn’t get XAMPP 1.7.0 working in Windows 7. There appears to be some sort of issues. I tried the zip package or the 7z package and both have the same result. Instead I found XAMPP 1.6.8 to be working fine for Windows 7 and is using that for web development using PHP and MySQL. I can confirm that cURL and sendmail is working fine in the Windows 7 environment with XAMPP 1.6.8.

  1. 1.7 seems to have a lot of issues in multiple environments… besides that, Windows 7 and XAMPP 1.7 work fine together… You just need to insure your file/directory securities are in order.

  2. A word of warning to all Windows 7 64-bit users out there – I have determined that the latest version of XAMPP installed on this platform causes the windows explorer to freeze and act very strangely. I could not remedy the problem, even when uninstalling XAMPP. It seems that installing XAMPP corrupts something which makes explorer unstable.

I would be setting restore points after each software installation so that you can easily backtrack. There are still some serious issues with Windows 7 64-bit.

  3. Clement: I’m using 64-bit Windows 7 too, however I did not install XAMPP. I just copied the files on the hard disk. I have been runing XAMPP (not as a service). I only run Apache and MySQL and both of them worked fine. I am using XAMPP 1.68 though.

I haven’t experience the problems regarding Windows Explorer freezing and acting strangely as you described. I’m currently on Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100).

  4. Hi you all,

Just installed xampp 1.7.0 on Windows 7 RC x86. (IE 8 installed)
The problem of the port came up so I changed the following in the httpd.conf
    – Listen 80 changed into Listen 85
    – ServerName localhost:80 changed into ServerName localhost:85

Same problem no page when trying to access http://localhost:85.

I solved the issue by installing Firefox 3.0, when hitting the address, it worked just fine.
    Hopefully this will help.

    Bye.
    Koen

  5. I also installed xampp 1.7.2 on Windows 7 x64 and IE 8 installed
But it work fine on my system.
Just install it on the disk that isn’t your system disk and it will work fine !

  6. I have just installed 1.6.8 on windows 7 and everything seems okay, but when i go to http://localhost it wont connect. even though the services are running and I can access phpmyadmin, im a newbie but it worked with vista … ill keep trying

  7. I just downloaded xampp and installed it on windows 7 x64 and tried to configure my vbulletin and I get some wacky errors that wont fix. I tried the same exact version of xampp and vbulletin on xp x86 and it worked the very first try.. I hope they fix the bugs with this soon.

  8. Here is a simple fix which worked for me
    Stats:
    XP Pro Service Pack 2
    Current XAMPP 1.7.3
. I had the same problem getting the local host to work IE7 and FireFox 3 but here’s what worked:

    Click on —
    Start Menu
    Control Panel
    Performance & Maintenance
Open the Administrator Tools link and select the services icon.

Look for the XAMPP services (Apache 2.2, Mysql)
Once open, ensure that the Apache service is started. If its not it needs to be.
If its not, double click the appache service and see where windows is looking for the file in the XAMPP directory.
In the “Path to Executable” it should have the location of your apache executable file called httpd.exe

If this is not correct just disable the apache service in the XAMPP control panel by stopping it first then unchecking the box
Now recheck the box and click on the XAMPP control panel start button for Apache

Once you see the green “running” sign near the apache and other services try the localhost again on your browser

  9. Also, use these steps for Mysql too.

I found out it was the Apache when I manually opened the httpd.exe file in the apache folder in XAMMP. then I did the localhost and it worked.

  10. I installed XAMPP 1.7.3 on windows 7 and I’m facing problem whereby it cannot create new object. So I completely uninstall xampp 1.7.3 and install 1.6.8 (which I confirmed okay when before this I use it on Windows XP and Vista).

Now the object creation is okay, but…. I’ve got new problem. I cant post data from one page to another page when using . I confirmed my code is correct but it just wont pass the data to the next page!

  11. If all of above did’t solve your problem try to reset all the network connection
from your PC by this command
go to run and write cmd
    after write
    netsh winsock RESET
it work for me after several day traing to solve the problem…
after individualy you have to reset other network connection you have
i have to do it for my wireless network card
I hope you solve your problem
    have a nice day
