How to fix missing MSVCR71.dll problem in Windows

I am using Windows 7, and I’m lacking MSVCR71.dll which is Microsoft Visual C Runtime library when using sendmail, the PostgreSQL PHP connector and curl. The MSVCR71.dll is probably bundled with .NET Framework 1.1 or something, but I couldn’t get those to install successfuly.
The program can't start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this program.

So how do I solve it:

  1. Download MSVCR71.dll from dll-files.com. (It is free.)
  2. Unzip…
  3. Place MSVCR71.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 if you using a 64-bit Windows.

And sendmail now works for me already in Windows 7.

By the way, I only tested this in Windows 7 64-bit. I assumed it would work for other versions of Windows. I would appreciate it if you could feedback to me if it works on your version of Windows. :)

Additions

It is reported working for Windows 7 32-bit as well.

  14. Fixed my problem openning running a java application in XP (virtualbox).

if for some reason this doesn’t fix ur issue, make sure windows installer has started in “services”.

If you windows installer is missing, try this.

    >msiexec.exe /unregister
    >msiexec /regserver

and go into services > RPC > logon tab, make sure local system account is selected and than goto windows installer and make sure “service status” is on start.

    Thanks for the fix.

  29. Hello All

I also benefited from this advice on Win 7 x64. As I was reading I noticed that someone named Fawn was installing same program as me th Bamboo graphics studio tablets. This is the key error “Adobe Projector has stopped working” you need a second dll fill called MSVCP71.dll which has a P before the “71” and not “R”
    and not MSVCR71.dll.

In other words you need a second dll file called “MSVCP71.dll” in order for the Bamboo tablet to work. The P is for the projector dll fill to work. I also got the file from dll-files.com.

    Quoted from Fawn
This did not work for me.

  30. This “tip” is ridiculous.
A dll is missing, you copy it, it works !
    What’s the big deal ?
All of you are not able to find that by yourself ????

    adios

  31. You saved my planet now my complex geological model don in hino§d can get a mesh wit Ansys ICEM -> ready for ssome carbon dioxide simulations..

  35. Thanks Buddy:) I was breaking my head and finally i got your result. Really appreciate your efforts by posting your comments and make my day better.

  36. Thanks for the simple soulution, realy helped me out a lot, had a missing .dll file whenever I tried to open the UnipaaS CRS program, and just followed the simple solution you provided and it solved the error. Much appreciated.

  37. Would that work for MSVCP71.DLL ? In my case I have been trying to install a game but when I put disc into the dvd drive I get the message that the aforementioned dll is missing. So I can’t install the game. I do have this dll in other games and it is the original Microsoft one. What do you reckon. Should I just copy it and then paste it in my system32 ? Do I have to register it ( CMD , Regsvr32 msvcp71.dll )
    Thanks !
